Wheat Genetic and Genomic Resources Center (WGGRC) at Kansas State University at Manhattan; WGGRC located in state-of-the-art Throckmorton Plant Sciences Center ( www.ksu.edu/wgrc ) offers interdisciplinary, exciting and stimulating environment for research, professional growth and placement. Job Responsibilities: The position is funded through the USDA-CSREES Plant Genome Program of National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program. The successful candidate will develop project website, database and bioinformatics tools for data display, and analysis. Specific tasks will include constructing integrated genetic/physical map of the wheat genome, developing search/query tools for accessing project data, developing comparative genomic resources for wheat, analysis of SNP genotyping and next generation sequencing data. The candidate will collaborate with a team of researchers in the analysis of wheat genomic data and studying the molecular structure of genes underlying the traits of agronomic importance.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications
- Ph. D. or M.S. degree in the fields of computer science and/or biology.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating system. Excellent knowledge of relational database development tools and strong programming background (MySQL, PHP, Perl, Java and C++).
- Knowledge of major bioinformatical software and ability to develop custom programs for genomic data analysis.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to work in team based collaborative environment
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of one of the statistical analysis packages (SAS, R) is preferable.
