Postdoctoral Research Associate
University of Dundee/SCRI, Invergowrie, Scotland

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position to work on association genetic analysis in barley. The applicant will join a team of European researchers in a European network using cultivated, landrace and wild barley to study genomic diversity and identify useful traits for breeding applications. The successful candidate will:

  • Collect and analyse genotype (high throughput SNP) and phenotype trait data, using LD and pedigree-based methods.
  • Query cereal databases and comparative maps to extract candidate genes
  • Perform next generation sequence analysis of candidate genes from landrace and wild barley germplasm
  • Select candidate gene alleles implicated in traits scored above

Applicants should have a biological research background and experience in one or more of the following: molecular genetic analysis, bioinformatics, population genetics, quantitative genetics.

This position is funded by the UK Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and is available for 2 years in the first instance, starting around January 2009 or by agreement. Salary starts at Grade 7 (GBP 27,466 - 33,780 depending on experience)
