Computational Biology for Plant Breeding and Genetics

LOCATION: Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences University of Minnesota St. Paul, MN 55108

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics is seeking an assistant or associate professor (75% research, 25 % teaching appointment) with expertise in bioinformatics and quantitative genetics to establish a strong research program developing computational methodologies and approaches to exploit genetic variation for crop improvement. The results of this research will be used to identify, characterize, and utilize genetic variation present in breeding programs and germplasm collections for crops adapted to Minnesota. The incumbent will be expected to work in collaboration with laboratory scientists, plant breeders and other computational biologists located in the Division of Plant Sciences, the Microbial and Plant Genomics Institute, and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute and to teach graduate and/or upper division undergraduate courses in their area of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent in an appropriate field is required. Postdoctoral or other relevant postdoctoral experience is expected. An interest in cross-disciplinary research and teaching is required. Candidates will be expected to develop a strong research program that leads to external funding; start-up funds are available.

SALARY: Commensurate with background and level of experience. This position is a nine-month appointment and is available immediately.
