Postdoctoral Research Associate

BACKGROUND: Researchers in a multi-institutional project ( http://www.uark.edu/ua/ricecap/ ) are investigating the genetic basis for two complex traits of economic importance to U.S. rice production. Multiple-trait, multiple-environment data are available for several large populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Analysis of QTL mapping data in several rice crosses, using multiple-trait and multiple-environment designs and weather data. You will be expected to use the literature and your biological and statistical training to develop predictive expressions for the influence of genetic and environmental variation on plant performance.

REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in a relevant biological or analytical science; strong experience in quantitative genetics and statistics; good oral and written communication skills.

PREFERENCES: Competence in a statistical language such as SAS, R, or MATLAB. Some familiarity with plant breeding and with mixed models. A record of publication in the research area of this position.

TERMS: Appointment for one year, with possibility of continuation on other genetics projects. Position is available October 15, 2008.

LOCALE: Kansas State University, Department of Plant Pathology, Manhattan, KS.
