Research Associate -- Wheat Quality Improvement Soil and Crop Sciences Department Colorado State University
Position
A Research Associate III position is available in the Wheat Breeding and Genetics Program within the Soil and Crop Sciences Department at Colorado State University. The position is a full-time, twelve-month administrative professional appointment with 100% research responsibilities.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will independently design and conduct research focused on the development, validation, and implementation of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopic calibrations for hard winter wheat end-use quality evaluation. The incumbent must effectively collect, manage, analyze, and interpret both NIR spectra and end-use quality data from experiments; prepare annual reports and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals; develop and submit extramural grant proposals; supervise student hourly employees; and collaborate with project personnel, including graduate students.
Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Applied Statistics, Chemometrics, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field is required. Computer literacy and experience with multivariate statistical data analysis techniques (e.g., PCA, PLS regression), and software is required. Knowledge of, or experience with, NIR-based quality assessment of wheat or other agricultural products is preferred. Knowledge of, or experience with, plant breeding, cereal chemistry, or end-use quality evaluation/ improvement is preferred. Effective written and oral communication skills in English and effective interpersonal skills are required.
Salary
Commensurate with training and experience.
